/personal/hot water urns are amazing

always having hot, potable water might be a luxury you haven't considered

many people - myself included - do not have money for anything extra right now, and aren’t likely to in the foreseeable future either. if /you/ happen to have funds to spare and are wondering how you might use them to make your life better, let me propose a hot water urn for your consideration. my kitchen has had a “zojirushi four liter water boiler and warmer” (currently ~$175) for years now, and it is a delight.

i love hot chocolate (with water - i know.. i really am a heretic). i love tea and coffee and ramen too. i am also extremely impatient. i don’t mind cooking taking a while, but i hate just /waiting/. i used to use hot water from the faucet to reduce the time it took to make pasta (which i later learned you should /really/ not do). since getting the kettle, /always/ having hot potable water ready to go has been /amazing/.

with an automatic hot water urn, making a cup of hot chocolate is v nearly as quick as grabbing a glass of tap water. my rice cooks faster, ramen is truly instant, and on a meaningful number of nights cooking dinner involves noticeably less waiting around. i realize not everyone is as impatient as me, but for me, literally never having to wait for water to boil over this many years has been so worth the investment.
